Another slow computer and of course it is either a virus or hard drive issue. In this case a defrag was needed. Lesson learned: defrag if no sign of virus.

It was 25 years ago today that the world’s first dot-com company came into existence on the internet and Symbolics.com got that honour. Prior to that the internet used a complex set of number and dots to be able to distinguish one organization from another.
The domain COM was installed as one of the first set of top-level domains when the Domain Name System was first implemented for use on the Internet in January 1985. Originally, the three letter extensions after the dot also known as Top Level Domain, were meant to differentiate whether the domain name was being used for commercial purposes (.com) or for a non-profit organization (.org) for a technology based company using the internet (.net) or for education(.edu) or for government (.gov) and for military (.mil).
Today those strict usages of Top Level Domains are no longer applied. Many education and non-profit organization crossed over and used com since it is more widely recognized.

With a new year everyone makes resolutions to get their body back in form but you should consider getting your computer back in form.
- I will back-up all my data on a regular basis. (Once a week for home users and daily for businesses).
- I will make sure my computer is always updated (this means that when the icon in the bottom left corner is telling me an important message I will pay attention to it).
- I will get a new updated anti-virus program (I prefer TrendMicro’s PcCillin)
- I will remove all programs I don’t use anymore.
- I will empty my temporary files and trash bin

So in our previous Slow Laptop articles we went through hardware (Parts 1 and 2) as well as the joys of defragmentation and cleaning up your temporary files in Part 3. The final remedy is my personal favorite and it is the most common: the virus meets the virus hunter.
UNDERSTANDING Spyware and Malware
The difference between spyware and malware is the same difference as there is between telephone soliciting and telephone pranking: they are both annoying with one being used for commercial and the other being used for malicious intent. When I started seeing spyware, malware back in 2002, I began to see a something that I did not see before; I knew what viruses were but spyware acted the same way except I knew where they originated from. My tools in the past for removing spyware is to look in the registry, then it was Lavasoft’s adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy in conjunction with Hijackthis.
The removal of all these rogue software used to take me several hours manually by using all the software above. I was very successful at removing viruses and spyware with all those tools however it took a very long to remove all the files and if you missed one then the malware would pop up again. Now I have found the best piece of software for the removal of Spyware and malware and it is called Malwarebytes. I highly reommend it to those who are experiencing a slow machine due to viruses, spyware, malware or scareware.
