HCS Digital scans printed photographs, slides, and negatives for families and individuals across Montreal. You bring us your collection — organized or not — and we scan it, return your originals, and give you the digital files. That’s the whole service. We don’t sort your photos, we don’t rename them into an archive structure, and we don’t charge more if your box is a mess. Bring it as it is.

We work efficiently because we don’t stop to sort or organize each collection. Basic corrections are applied to create an edited version, while the original scan is preserved separately.

Preparing Your Photos — Optional
You don’t need to prepare anything before you bring us your photos. Sort them, or don’t — the price is the same either way, and we don’t sort or organize your collection for you. We scan it exactly as you hand it to us, and it comes back to you the same way.
Mixed orientations, mixed groups, photos loose in a box — all fine. If you’d like a head start on organizing your own digital files afterward, you’re welcome to group loose photos into envelopes before you come in. But it’s entirely optional, and it never changes your price.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do my photos have to be sorted before I bring them in?
No. Bring them exactly as they are — sorted, unsorted, mixed together, it doesn’t matter.
What if my photos are all mixed up?
That’s fine. We scan your collection as received. We don’t sort or organize it for you.
Does preparing my photos change the price?
No. The price is based on the quantity of items being scanned. Preparing or sorting your collection yourself does not change the price.
Will HCS organize my photos for me?
No. HCS Digital is a scanning service, not an organizing or archival service. We scan what you bring us.
Will I get my original photographs back?
Yes, always. Your originals stay in our care only for scanning and are returned to you.
Do you scan the backs of photographs?
Yes. We scan the back whenever there is writing, a date, identification, or other information worth keeping.
Do I get an edited version of my photographs?
Yes. For photographs, we provide an original scan as well as an edited version with basic corrections. The original is preserved so you always have an unaltered digital copy.
What kind of editing is included?
Basic corrections are included with the edited version, such as cropping, rotation, and adjustments to brightness, contrast, and colour. Extensive restoration or retouching is not included in standard scanning.
Do you restore or repair old photographs?
Not as part of standard scanning. Our focus is producing an accurate digital copy of your originals along with a basic corrected version.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size of your project and our current workload. Because everything is handled locally in Montreal, turnaround is fast — we’ll give you a completion estimate when we confirm your project.
How do I receive my files?
Digital delivery is included with your scanning project. Your files can be delivered electronically or on USB. If you want a physical USB drive supplied by HCS, we can provide one for an additional fee.
Do you scan slides and negatives?
Yes. 35mm slides and negatives are scanned and priced according to quantity. See the Pricing section above.
